 Joe Antonucci Thrust into a position four years ago without any knowledge of produce, Antonucci more than doubled produce sales in three months. Drawing on his experience in other departments, he brought innovation to merchandising and display, helping spark customer demand. "I took the knowledge I had gained from other areas of the store and parlayed it into the produce display counters," he explains. "The fruits and vegetables became vibrant and soon the customers were gathering on daily basis to see the new attraction."
He is inspired by his pride in his work. "Whatever I do, I take pride in it. I have had many challenges including having to deal with less-than-favorable produce, having to work a department alone when there was a need to have a least one person with me, and dealing with very tough and demanding customers." Joe's goal is to one day own his own franchise of the Italian Centre Shop and maybe open up a store in the United States. "Our company is growing and expanding, and I'd love play an even more direct role in it." His produce mentor is Raffaelle Stabile, purchaser Italian Centre Shop. "He is now the best purchaser in the city. When I started in produce, I worked under him, and he was not very easy to work with. He was demanding of me all the time and never let me take shorts cuts, probably because he had previously managed the produce section for at least 25 years. 16,000-squre-foot store. "This second store is more than double the size
of our current store. I'm very excited for the opportunity."
