Job Summary

The Bakery Supervisor, under the direction of the Director of Operations, will primarily be responsible to ensure all appropriate workplace regulations, compliances, and legislation regarding health and safety, food preparation standards, and company policies and procedures are adhered to at all times. This position will ensure that safe work practices are being followed. This role will also ensure the effectiveness of employees through strategic hiring, assignment of duties, discipline, and dismissal. The Bakery Supervisor must possess three years of experience in a management role and five years of experience in the food services industry and degree or an advanced degree in hospitality and food services, or red seal (baker) certificate preferred.
Job Duties
- Ensure all appropriate workplace regulations, compliances, and legislation regarding health and safety, food preparation standards, and company policies and procedures are adhered to at all times
- Ensure that safe work practices are being followed
- Ensure the effectiveness of employees through strategic hiring, assignment of duties, discipline, and dismissal
- Ensure that all employees comply with company policies, procedures, and food safety standards
- Provide employee training, ensuring that all applicable compliance requirements are met
- Provide leadership for employee relations through effective communications, coaching, training, and development
- Evaluate employee performance and provide feedback, coaching, and formal evaluations
- Ensure the highest standards of personal hygiene and dress amongst all employees is enforced
- Ensure all customers are greeted and welcomed in a friendly manner and their questions are answered as required
- Attend to customer complaints in a professional manner when they are escalated to the management level
- Develop strategic performance metrics and targets that are consistent with company goals
- Coordinate activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and delegating work accordingly
- Maintain shift schedules to ensure sufficient employee coverage
- Oversee staff to ensure work is being performed according to established standards
- Participate in site and workplace inspections
- Plan the department's workload and flow
- Administer disciplinary action in accordance with established procedures
- Analyze departmental operations and identify areas requiring improvement
- Regularly engage with customers, answering questions, educating and promoting produce and services that are offered, enhancing loyalty, sales and profit
- Assist in the development of future leaders
- Ensure consistent, fair and accurate implementation of HR policies and procedures
- Respond to and resolve employee issues in a timely manner
- Implement Department plans and budgets as assigned by the Baker Director
- Assist with Inventory Management
- Prepare a variety of baked goods, including bread and pastry products
- Other duties as required
Job Requirements
- Three years of experience in a management role and five years of experience in the food services industry
- Degree or an advanced degree in hospitality and food services, or Red Seal (Baker) Certificate preferred
- Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills
- Experience with coaching and employee development
- Effective leadership skills, with a strong focus on mentoring and motivation of employees Demonstrated time management skills
- Ability to identify measures of performance and actions needed to improve or correct performance
- Ability to delegate, set expectations, and monitor progress of all direct reports
- Strong formal and informal leadership skills
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. consistently
Work Conditions
